Art Classes – description:

Our art classes are friendly and welcoming. Each lesson is structured around a project which is set by email. The theme usually lasts between 2-3 weeks. At the start of the class Stewart will demonstrate the techniques for the project, including layout, composition, initial drawing, and give a run down on colours required for the painting process. You will  commence your own work and help will be given on a needs basis. Demonstrations will be done throughout until the conclusion of the painting, showing techniques and principals. Drawing will be considered as part of the work and we will do exercises to help improve drawing skills in a fun and light manner. At the end of the term you will be given the opportunity to re-enrol in the next term, to save your place in the class (or you might need to go onto a waiting list). Student at the Fareham Gallery will have basic materials provided. Students (in the Whiteley classes) will need to bring their own materials with them for each class and will be advised by email what is needed and may include the following but not exclusively:
 
  • Watercolour paper,  Canvas or Canvas board/paper (12″x 14″ or 12″ x 16″)
  • Watercolour, Oil or Acrylic Paints (Ivory Black, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Cadmium Red,  Ultramarine or Colbot Blue,  Raw Sienna or Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Yellow, Titanium White.)
  • Water containers
  • Oil Thinner (Odorless thinner only not Turpentine)
  • Watercolour brushes,  Oil Brushes: Hog filberts 10 or 8, 4 Synthetic rounds 4 and 1
  • Palette and palette knife
  • Kitchen roll and or old cloths
  • Wear old cloths
